The beautiful illustrations in this book bring to life the captivating landscapes that Lady Liberty saw on her journey. But will she manage to return to New York City in time for the Fourth of July? And perhaps, after her incredible journey, will she even want to return?
3 Apple Pie Fourth of July by Janet S. Wong
This book tells the story of a Chinese-American girl who struggles to appreciate her family's immigrant traditions on Independence Day. She was surprised that her parents cooked and sold Chinese food on an important American holiday, and tried to explain to her parents why they shouldn’t. But as the parade goes on, customers came and bought the oriental Chinese foods that they sold. She learned an important lesson, which young readers will also learn and understand. It offers a heartwarming message about the importance of diversity and cultural heritage in America.

For our country, we'll sing it loud.
We stand together, brave and true.
Red, white, and blue, we salute you!
2 Fireworks
(Children can wiggle their fingers to represent fireworks while singing to the tune of Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed)
Five little fireworks lighting up the sky,
Bursting with colors way up high.
Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Up they go,
Lighting the night with a colorful glow.
3 Statue of Liberty
(Children can raise their arm and hold a pretend torch while singing to the tune of Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed)
Raise your arm high, like Statue of Liberty.
With a shining torch for all to see.
She welcomes people from far and near,
A symbol of freedom that we hold dear.
4 Proud to Be an American
(Children can pat their hearts and sing to the tune of Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star)
I'm proud to be an American, yes it's true,
With bravery and freedom, through and through.
I love my country, I sing with pride,
As we stand together, side by side.
5 Stars and Stripes
(Children can wave their hands to represent the flag and sing to the tune of Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed)

The American flag, it flies in the sky.

3 Flag Collage
Provide children with red, white, and blue construction paper, scissors, and glue. Help them cut out shapes like stars and stripes, and then let them create their own American flag collage by arranging and gluing the pieces onto a larger sheet of paper. As you do this with your preschooler, you can tell them the history of our flag! This activity can also help in developing their hand and eye coordination and fine motor skills, as glue together small pieces of paper to complete their collage.
4 Patriotic Snack
Engage the children in making a simple patriotic snack, such as fruit skewers with red and blue berries. Provide strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, and skewers. Help the children thread the berries onto the skewers to create colorful and tasty treats. You can also prepare cupcakes and have your little one help in decorating them with blue and red icing and sprinkles! Yum!
5 Storytime Theater
If you have more than one child at home or a small group of kids, the storytime theater is a great idea to keep them busy and happy! You can select a patriotic-themed story or book (or one you have told them before), and encourage the kids to act it out as a mini-theater production! Provide them with simple props and costumes, and let their creativity shine as they bring the story to life through dramatic play. This is a great help in developing their social and communication skills.
Remember to adapt these activities to the age and developmental level of the preschoolers, ensuring they are safe and enjoyable for everyone involved. These hands-on activities will help preschoolers learn about American symbols, colors, and traditions while having fun and engaging in imaginative play.
